RIP- My Beloved Bud
Yesterday, or was it the day before, my mind is still crazy… I had to put down one of my dogs that I had for 14 years. The whole week was like a haze and depressing because knew I had to do it but couldnt. I probably hung on too long but you know how that is.
I paced, I cried,I tossed and turned in my sleep. I adopted him when he was two, a rescue that had been dropped off in a remote area, the Adirondacks, to fend for himself. In a few weeks he learned to kill and hunt. He was a large akita named Bud. The vet call me begging me to take him. They had him a few months and needed to find a home or put him down. I said no. I then tossed and turned all night and finally they got me to come see him. I didnt think it would work with the dogs i already had, he was aggressive, but I also couldnt see him put down. I took him home kept him my garage and slowly brought him into my home.

Dogs Deserve Better -Help Support The Cause
http://www.dogsdeservebetter.com/
Across the nation and especially in areas of Virginia 1000′s of dogs are left chained or in small pen with very little love and human contact. Please please support this cause. If you have a dog that is chained or pen, please read and learn about your options. If you are unable to care for your pet please contact the spca.org
Here at Dancing Creek Farm we have secure areas for dogs, however they are still confined. Having a nice fenced area is not enough. You need to provide that pet with fresh clean water at all times. Take your pet for a walk, brush, cuddle and love them. That’s what makes our facility so special is the time we take to ensure the emotional and spiritual wellbeing of every animal here. Animals are precious and deserve the best life you can give them.

Holiday Boarding ~ Thanksgiving and Xmas
We are taking reservations for holiday boarding. Please be sure to book ahead and make sure we have room. Right now we still have some spots left and thinking about opening up another area. If you have any small dogs and need more one on one care my mother and sister are also taking dogs into their homes for the holidays. This is total one on one care and we can only take small dogs for that.
Thanksgiving I have two turkeys and a case of sweet potatoes for everyone. If your pet is staying here over the Thanksgiving holiday be sure to let us know if he/she can’t have any of this. We get a little runny but nothing serious. I mix a little with kibble and they just love it! They LOVE baked sweet potatoes.
Xmas we have room still.
get your reservations in soon!

Summer Boarding
Just a quick update… sorry I haven’t been posting much. I’m working a part time job at home. It seems that some of you are taking one vacation this year instead of two. I completely understand! Still we have a few long term boarders this year and its important to get your reservations in early.
I’ll be posted video again soon. Updated my software and couldn’t get it to work.
Make sure your pets are up to date on shots and flea/tick treatment. They are really bad this year.

Loving a Dog

“A dog has no use for fancy cars or big homes or designer clothes. Status symbols mean nothing to him. A water-logged stick will do just fine. A dog judges others not by their color or creed or class but by who they are inside. A dog doesn’t care if you are rich or poor, educated or illiterate, clever or dull. Give him your heart and he will give you his. It is really quite that simple …” From the movie, “Marley & Me”
I just watched the movie “Marley & Me”. The story is based on the life of a dog & his owners. It’s a great story, although with a sad ending, especially for dog lovers. I warn you that the ending might make you cry. I hadn’t cried like that in years. Unfortunately I could relate to ending where he had to put Marley to sleep. In my 50 years and caring for countless animals, I never get use to their life ending. The difference for me is when I put a dog down that has had a happy and full life as opposed to an animal that had to suffer due to illness and end his life too early. The pain and suffer haunts me for years. I still get pain in my heart every time I look at a picture of dogs I had and lost.

Gobble Gobble Gobble Happy Thanksgiving
We have a nice crew this holiday. Most of the dogs this year are younger and they are having a great time! We have a 15 pound turkey for everyone, pumpkin soufflé, sweet potatoes and corn on the cob! We have dogs everywhere BUT if you need last minute boarding and you have dog that gets along well with others, we can still fit a few more in.
Its a good idea to book now for Xmas. We have a special dinner planned for our fur buddies: deviled poochie eggs (deviled eggs with chicken livers made special for our buddies) and a nice top round roast we got at Sam’s Club. We also have stockings so reserve early so we can make sure we have enough.
Its a big doggies slumber party and the kids are staying up late partying.

Beans, Beans, Good for Your Heart, The more you eat…
The faster you RUN!!!!
I only feed my dogs a high grade food which is really expensive when you have 5 dogs, 3 of them extra large. I always add yummy stuff to the dogs food, even my boarders get a tasty treat in their kibble. Sometimes I bake up a batch of sweet potatoes, maybe some canned pumpkin with some brown rice. Not only does it cut down the cost of my expensive kibble but it gives them variety.

Sherry’s Birthday – Floating on The Dan River
I’m a little behind on my videos. This was actually taken in August. I took my sister, Sherry and her son, Sam out for a tubing trip on the Dan River for Sherry’s Birthday. They dropped us off and we spent a few hours floating. The water was a big muddy, not as nice as the New River, but very relaxing. We put a cooler in a tube, packed with our lunch and ate on the river.

Dog Gone it! Dog on the Table
I don’t mind sharing my chair and even my bed with my doggie friends, however this dog has gone WAY too far! For some reason he decided he liked sleeping on my dining room table. This is a shaggy english sheep dog I shaved earlier that day because he was severely matted. I put a coat on him and gave him a nice warm blankie on the floor. Next thing I know it, he’s on the table sleeping.

Sharing the TV – Big Head Bear
I get really tired of telling Bear, my big headed Rottie, to move his fat head from my TV! I swear I can’t turn it on without his face right up in it and he can watch TV for hours. I often have to tell him to sit back worried he’ll ruin his eyes.
So I go to my big chair to watch a past episode of Survivor and guess what happens? I have to put a towel on my laptop so he doesn’t slobber all over the keys.
BTW his favorite channel is Animal Planet, of course! He comes into my bedroom really early, sticks his big head on the TV waiting for me to turn it on. If I’m too slow he starts crying, looks at me then the TV.

Max, Ozzy & Riley
I don’t always get a chance to shoot video because many of the dogs are bouncing off the walls and playing, however on a chilly winter day I often curl up in my big chair and light a fire. On the floor here cuddled by the fire we have 3 of the sweetest little Yorkies you’ve ever seen! The one on the small round bed is little Ozzy, the bigger one is Riley and Max is the tiny one with the sweet face. Click the image to play.

Please have a look below and if you have any questions just give me a call.

NEW- Dog Grooming! – Many groomers won’t take large dogs. So we decided to setup for grooming out at the farm. You can drop off & pick up or let us know your interest in pick-up & we’ll combine the trip with a few other customers. Now is the time to get that complete shave for the hot August heat & still enough time to grow out for winter.
- Bath, ears and nails – $25.00
- Bath, ears, nails, trim - small dogs $30.00 large (over 40 pounds) $40.00
- Full shave – small dogs 40.00 large (over 40) $75.00 (extremely long hair & very large may be higher)
Day Care- Camp & Play
Some of our customers have asked about day care so that their babies can get exercise and socialize with others. We’ve always had Day Care at $15.00 a day (includes walk, play all day) but we now offer it from 7am to 7pm. Some people have a hard time making it out here to drop off during work, therefore we are considering pick-up and drop off (Dog Bus) 2-3 days a week! This bus will include pick-up and drop off for grooming customers too. Add daycare to your grooming package for for only $10.00 more!
Very important!! Your dog MUST play nice with others.
Mid-Day Dog Walking – For now this is only available Tuesdays and Thursdays between the hours of 2-4PM. We will come by and take your baby for a 30 min walk & play. As our dog sitting grows we’ll extend the days. Unfortunately gas prices are so high & we’re out in the county. If you’ll work with us we’ll make sure we include you in our trips.

Double Dog Dating – Alaska, Molly Brown, Casper & Bullet
Last night around 7PM I went to go do my rounds checking on everyone. I was very quiet so I wouldn’t disturb everyone and get them barking. In the yard was Alaska, Molly Brown, Casper and Bullet all laying in a circle facing one another and very close like they were hanging having a conversation. I ran to go get my video camera but by the time I got back they were up and barking. Sometimes its hard to get the best moments, however I wanted to at least get a video of the four of them. Molly Brown and Bullet definitely have a connection. It was love at first site!

Petsmart – My Personal Thoughts & Wellness Dog Food
I have nothing against commercialism to a point and everyone is entitled to be successful in their business. Still I feel that we lose that small town charm when we go overboard. We often forget that their were hardworking businesses that helped build Danville in the first place. Maybe its my romantic ways that drive me to want to support the local community so that we all can flourish.
My issue today is with Petsmart. Sure its cool to be able to take your dog to a public venue. Petsmart carries just about everything for a variety of pets. With the addition of dog grooming it truly has become a one-stop shop.
When Petsmart opened its doors last year (I forget the actual date) I went with a handful of flyer’s ready to post them on a community board or see if there was some way they could support a local dog boarding business. I learned from the manager (and certainly not a friendly way) thats Petsmart doesn’t refer any type of businesses nor provide any community resources. I admit I was a bit taking back by this. The very least they could do is offer a community bulletin board.

The Traffic Jam
Its not unusual for me to have a 1/2 dozen dogs running around my office and hanging out in my house. In the fenced area off my own personal deck I have a ramp. Its funny watching a bunch of dogs all trying to go up or down the same time. This video is starring Bear, Pablo, Roscoe, Stumpy and Alaska. Please excuse my grass. It was all seeded and looking great… lol- for a while anyhow. Hard to keep a lot of nice grass with so many crazy dogs!

Home Services 4 U & Your Pet
Many people have asked about fencing, dog decks, houses and dog doors. We now have a person that can build it all including animal pens & stalls. We can even come in and deck your house out with dog door, decking, fencing and even automated feeders and waters. Some people are automating pet care for more freedom. Instead of paying for pet sitting 2-3 times a day, we can come by once a day to make sure everyone is ok.
In addition they can also provide other home services inside and out- install gutters, decks, fix outlets, light plumbing, painting, debris removal, repair and install doors, windows, lights, alarms, plant irrigation, fencing and much more. No job too big or small. Call or email me for the number.

Oddjob, Cherry, Piper & Riley – The Fantastic Four
These are 4 perfect dogs. Oddjob (Golden Retriever) & Cherry (Boarder Collie) live together. Oddjob LOVES to play fetch so anytime a human is present he gets the ball and brings it to you. He could do this 50 times a day, I’m sure. Cherry is very affectionate and sweet.
The two mixes Riley & Piper live together and are here for an extended stay. As you can see in the first part of the video Piper is very vocal! I have tired to get video of these two for several weeks which is almost impossible as you’ll see in the second half of the video. They NEVER stay still when there is a human around. They love to play and are very affectionate. Piper is a lap dog and Riley loves to lay her head on your lap and get kissed all over her face.
All four dogs are excellent dogs.

Stumpy & Pablo
These two live together and came to visit Dancing Creek Farm. Stumpy is one of those specialty breeds, sort of a mix between a basset hound and shitzu. Very interesting look and a really sweet dog. Pablo is obvious a Chihuahua only about a 1 year and ADORABLE! They are both males. The video below is actually several clips combined. In the first part you can see Stumpy smiling. Its the funniest thing! You then see them looking out the screen door, their favorite past time, watching the roosters, hens and just checking everything out. You’ll then see Pablo stiff and looking like he’s crying when actually he LOVES sitting in the warm sun but its so bright and he also starts to get sleepy. I was spying on him on the back sun deck, sitting there and I saw him start to fall asleep, nodding out while sitting up! It was so funny. Sometimes the video camera isn’t there when you need it.
